Enjoy a scenic drive to eastern Iowa where we’ll visit three unique and remarkable attractions. In Burr Oak we’ll visit the Laura Ingalls Park & Museum. A local guide will help us learn about the life of Laura in Burr Oak as a 9 year old girl. Hear her stories that fit in between her books “On the Banks of Plum Creek” and “By the Shores of Silver Lake”. After an included lunch at the Stone Hearth Restaurant in Decorah we’ll visit Seed Savers Exchange. This incredible place is a worldwide leader in preserving agricultural heritage in numerous ways. Our guided tour features beautiful Heirloom Display Gardens, Historic Orchards (one with over 950 apple varieties), Heritage Breed Farm (including rare Ancient White Park Cattle), a retail store and more. Our last stop will be at the Bily Clock Museum in Spillville. Our guide will illuminate the incredible lives of two brothers, Frank and Joseph Bily (bee-lee) and the hand-carved clocks they painstakingly created. The clocks depict history, art, religion and culture and are covered with hundreds of expertly carved figures. Some stand over nine feet tall. This is a place you have to see to believe. Moderate walking.
