Special Needs Tours
Every vacation is supervised by our owner, Kim Doll. Each tour is attended by Kim and/or our Special Needs Tour Lead Karen. Kim is a registered nurse, specializing in Critical Care. All other support staff /chaperones are carefully screened and selected volunteers. Many of our staff are social workers, teachers, group home staffers, medical professionals, and other qualified and experienced people.
Typical staff to Traveler ratio is 1:3 or 1:4. If a Traveler requires more assistance and/or supervision we MUST be informed of this need ahead of time. Please be aware that care/supervision on vacations is typically more intensive or demanding than in the home setting. We will do our best to accommodate a Traveler’s needs in excess of our normal staff supervision and assistance. If a Traveler requires (1:1) supervision and assistance, an extra fee will be required. In some instances we will require that a Traveler attend the tour with their own support staff, someone the traveler provides. As stated previously; this is the policy with Travelers that use a wheelchair for mobility, require physical assistance to transfer, require additional guidance due to low vision or require assistance due to frequent incontinence.
Personal Escorts/Own Support Staff
At times Travelers and/or caregivers may not feel comfortable attending a vacation without a familiar face along. This situation has been common for first time guests, Travelers who may need more assistance than our typical 1:3/4 staff to Traveler ratio and for Travelers who use wheelchairs. We welcome, encourage, and will at times require that a personal caregiver attend with the participant. Typically, the cost for such an arrangement (total for BOTH support staff and traveler) is typically 150% or 1 ½ times the cost of the indicated rate. For example; if a trip cost $500, the additional fee for (1:1) staffing would be $250 ($500 x 1.5 = $750). This would include a standard hotel room with two beds. The cost for (1:1) staffing on international tours, cruises and trips that include a flight may be calculated differently. Please call for guaranteed prices.
Payment Information
*NEW booking process. Requesting trip information does not sign-up or guarantee a guest for that tour. A participant’s booking is secured when a completed Medical Consent Waiver and the deposit for multi-day trips or payment in full for one-day trips is received. Multi-day trips require payment in full no later than 60 days prior for motorcoach tours and 90-120 days prior for international tours, cruises and trips that include a flight. Each trip itinerary includes specific payment details and cancellation policy for that trip.
